The 2nd leg of our China tour started after 4 days in Shanghai:
19th & 20th April - Shanghai: The Bund, Yu Gardens & bazaar, Shanghai museum, markets, Joe's birthday & a Karaoke evening (even got Gill to sing 'Angels' right at the end!
21st April - Overnight train to Luoyang: a mammoth 17 hours train journey. Coped with the help of Chinese Rice vodka
22nd April - Shaolin: The Shaolin temple famous for the origins of Kung Fu, the Kung Fu show, Pagoda Forest, ski lift to hill overlooking Shaolin. The ‘Hotel For Foreigners' was the pits - toliet didn't flush, no hot water & beds rock hard!
23rd April - Luoyang & the Longmen Grottoes: The grottoes & temple, The White Horse temple. n the evening went to the music / fountain show (alledgedly the largets in the world), & then later onto the Muslim Quarter for street food。
24th to 26th April - Xian (Terracotta Warriors): Gill's birthday on the first night, the Terracotta Warriors Museum Culture Street, the Xian City wall cycle ride, The Bell Tower & the Drum Tower. Also many trips to the night market in the Muslim quarter!!! Ben's birthday on the last night
27th April - Overnight train to Zhongwei: The Gao Miao Temple, where there were below ground Hades exhibits (study them closely, they are grim!), & town。Westerners are clearly a rare sight here as everyone really stares. The young however are happy to approach & pratice their limited English. Manaed to get a bunch of college girls to write my last 9 postcards for me (last pictures). They are fascinated by us writing or reading anything and just come up & peer over your shoulder
28th April - Zhongwei: Where at now。。。。
29th / 30th April - Camel ride & night in the desert:
30th April to 5th May - Beijing:
5th May - HOME !!!
